Video Production ~ We Blog About It!

Latest

Adobe Creative Suite, my new best friend!

As we all know (assuming you are like me and have invested 10 years in Apple), Apple has decided to stop servicing the Final Cut Studio.  Well, I used to be a cheerleader for most things Apple (never got and Ipad or Iphone)… but that has changed since this latest announcement.

SO, I am off to the store (internet, actually) to get the latest and greatest that the good people at Adobe have to offer.  I have used their products (After Effects, Photoshop) for years so now I just need Premier.

Apple is killing Small Video Companies

Apple just launched FCP X and it is a small business killer.  I have invested 10 years and tens of thousands of dollars in Apple FCP and supporting software/equipment… and today they simply shattered that.

Video for the web!

We recently completed a promotional video for PAC Fitness with Nexus Productions.  Check it out now!

Video in HD and use of “Green Screen”.

While it is common in the movie industry to use a green or blue screen to build a composite image, why not make it easy and join us in the studio so we can put you ANYWHERE!  Including, in this case… in your office!  We have portable systems so we can come to you if needed. Call or email for a custom quote.

This is a Tribute!

There are many way for colleagues and coworkers to honor those who have achieved greatness in their field.  We recently completed a five minute tribute video for a prominent Dallas area Neurologist, Scientist and Doctor.  Whenever we accept a video of this level of personal commitment, we are always moved by those who care so much as to tell the tale well.  While the written word can capture emotion…  all of us agree that Film and Video tell the story in a way a written format cannot.  We were pleased to help and hope to do more in the future with this client and many others.

“Goin’ Walkabout”

On of our customers, Mike Makens of Walkabout Landscape is just about to do just that!  Mike is taking his “show on the road” as he and his team visit Thailand!  His landscaping business specializes in “native” plant life for Texas and natural fixtures (rocks, ponds and streams).  In his travels he will discuss  types of landscaping and local flora he sees while in Thailand.

Here is a quick look at Mike in his “native” setting.  Be sure to visit www.walkaboutlandscape.com for updates on his travels!

“Get by with a little help from my friends…”

Tonight I was discussing The Beatles with a colleague… thus the title of today’s post.

After returning to the office I found that not only had my render/export etc failed… and Final Cut Studio had crashed, but it simply would NOT open again.  For anyone that works for a living, having your tools not work or worse, work against you can be frustrating… Not to mention cost you time and productivity…

Enter my “friends” in our industry… First, I turned to a great knowledge base that most of you know… the good people at Creative Cow.  As a consumer of knowledge in this wonderful (and rapidly changing) field…  I thirst for knowledge and “The Cow” is my regular watering hole…

A quick search there and VOILA!  I land safely on a solution that I can download and try for free (BIG FAN of FREE Trials!).   My NEW friends at Digital Rebellion got me out of this jam using their FCS Maintenance pack… it cleaned my FCP Studio up (trashed nasty corrupt files) and I am back to work in minutes… I didn’t even have time to get frustrated!  Kudos to my friends, “The Cow” and DR helping me “get by“…

So “If you neeeeeed any booody….” look no further than those two to get you out of a jam…

But if you need Video Production done Right!… Give us a call as well!

Hit the record button on “Those Little Wonders”!

As the father of three children I encourage you to get out and record video of your children growing and playingRecord as much as you can! These moments simply disappear other than what memories can save.

That said, We would like to wish all of you Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.  See you (hopefully on the business end of our cameras) in the New Year.  Let’s stay busy in 2011!

Spin it Faster!

It is not Brain Surgery… unless is IS Brain Surgery!

Yesterday we were on location in a Dallas Hospital shooting interviews.  We had the opportunity to interview a neurosurgeon but the catch was that we had to shoot outside the OR as he had limited time.  Our crew had to prepare by donning scrubs and shoe and head cover… and we waited outside a live patient surgery for our subject.

One of the tricks of our trade is to be ready to roll at a moments notice.  We also are prepared to  roll camera even when we say we aren’t… because subjects tend to tighten up when you simply state that, “We are recording!”.   It is important to be sure the subject has already agreed to an interview… and then tell them you are just testing lights and sound… and ask if you can have them simply rehearse.  At this time you ask them the REAL questions and have them “practice” answering… you usually get the best, sincere answers.  Try it sometime.

Making the backgrounds work

Recently, we added a new customer to our list (hooray!).  This customer likes, nay, LOVES shooting on the “Green Screen” as in the weather wall to those who know it from only the news.

The problem… finding good keying software that handles poor or variable lighting.  You may suggest the solution is better lighting… and you would be right!  However, in absence of that for reasons more political than anything, I will propose our solution:

Primatte Keyer Pro from Red Giant.  We simply add the filter in Final Cut Pro… make some minor tweaks… and presto!  Lovely!  Go get yours!
